Norman R. Vann Jr.

MURFREESBORO – Norman Royce Vann Jr., 46, was a native of Hertford County and settled in Northampton County where he worked for over 20 years as a Chemist and a Certified Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator with the Georgia Pacific Chemical Plant in Conway. He had, also, worked with Flambeau in Weldon as their Safety Coordinator.

He attended North Carolina State University on full scholarship and graduated from the School of Wood Science and Technology there. As a member of Meherrin Baptist he attended the Young Adult Sunday School Class.

With the nicknames “Rooster” and “Chop Chop” he was known to dance on his toolbox at times!  He loved to travel and his favorite place to go was OcracokeIsland as he enjoyed being near the water.

Having been preceded in death by his father Norman Royce Vann, Sr. and half brother, Billy Perry, his survivors include wife, Glynda McFadden Vann of Murfreesboro; mother, who he greatly loved and was always there for, Margaret Skeeter Vann of Conway; brother, Mark Andrew Vann and wife, Kelly, of Gaston; three nieces, Brianna, Sara, and Piper Vann of Gaston; and his beloved three dogs and two cats.

The family will be receiving friends at Bridgers Funeral Home, Inc., 605 West Main St., Conway, on Friday, April 5, 2013 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. His funeral service will be held Saturday, April 6, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in Meherrin Baptist Church, 519 Meherrin Ave., Murfreesboro, with the Rev. Josh Parsons and the Rev. David Ross presiding.  Burial will follow in the Ashley’s Grove Cemetery, Ashley’s Grove Road, Conway.
