Grady T. Davis Jr.

WINDSOR – Grady Talmage Davis Jr. 91, formerly of 706 Winwood Drive, Windsor, died Tuesday April 2, 2013 at Three Rivers in Windsor.

He was born in Portsmouth, VA on October 1, 1921 to the late Grady T. Davis, Sr. and Irene Cousins Davis and was predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Martha Ward Davis, and two brothers, Russell W. and Robert A. Davis.

Grady was a member and Deacon of Cashie Baptist Church, Mason and Past Master of Lodge #5, Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star, and Windsor Rotary President. He was a Windsor Town Commissioner and a member and President of the Windsor Jaycees.  He also was a member of the Windsor American Legion and VFW.  He served his country in the Pacific skies as a bomber pilot in the US Navy during World War II and was awarded the Purple Heart.  After military service, he was a proprietor of G. T. Davis & Co. in Windsor until his retirement in 1989.  Grady loved his God, family, friends, and hometown.

Survivors include three sons, G. Talmage Davis, III and his wife, Barbara, of Nags Head, Walton Deva, formerly James Walton Davis, and his wife, Lori, of Hillsboro, and John Hunter Davis and his wife, Cindy, of Merry Hill; sister-in- law, Ruth W. Brown of Williamston; grandchildren, Jonathon Eric Davis, Stephanie Davis Hart, Alek Deva and Jordan Deva; great grandchildren, Grace Davis, Jack Davis, Leah Davis and Joshua Hart; many nieces, grand nieces, nephews, and grand nephews all of whom he loved very much; and a host of friends whom he viewed as extended family.

A service celebrating his life will be held on Friday April 5, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in Windsor at Cashie Baptist Church by Dr. Carroll Tarkington. Interment will follow at Edgewood Cemetery with military honors.

The family will hold a wake from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday April 4, 2013 at Walker Funeral Home, Windsor with hor d’oeurves and beverage provided.
