Donald Carter Phillips

MURFREESBORO – Donald Carter Phillips, 70, born February 3, 1943, went peacefully to Heaven with his family by his side at seven-o-seven a.m. Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at Vidant Roanoke Chowan Hospital in Ahoskie.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Dewey Phillips, Sr.; a sister, Billie Faye Bullard; and a brother, Jack F. Phillips.
Leaving behind is his wife of 49 years, Paula Askew Phillips; a son, Barry Carter Phillips and wife, Lynn; a daughter, Donna Phillips Askew and husband, Tommy; one grandson, Carter Thomas Askew; a twin brother, Daniel Thomas Phillips; brother, George Dewey Phillips, Jr; and one sister, Linda Laganas.
Don enjoyed his family and, most especially, golf cart riding with his grandson, Carter. He was honored in 2012 by Rose Brothers Paving, Inc. of Ahoskie for 44 years of dedicated service in heavy construction.
His life was full of activities, which included restoring and judging early Ford Mustangs. He was a longtime member of The Mustang Club of America, the Tarheel Mustang Club and Cars Are Fun Club. He was an avid shooter and a member of the NRA, SASS, and Old Hickory Gun Club of Rocky Mount, NC. Don made many friends all over the United States and was respected and admired in each of these organizations.
Graveside services will be held at Riverside Cemetery, Murfreesboro, on Sunday, February 24, 2013 at 1 p.m. with Dr. James Crocker presiding. In lieu of flowers donations can be given to Christ Covenant School, 4889 Old Tar Road, Winterville, NC 28590 or to Roberts Chapel Baptist Church, P.O. Box 28, Pendleton, NC 27862.
