Alma McGee Stephenson

FUQUAY-VARINA – Alma McGee Stephenson, 101, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at her home at Windsor Point, surrounded by family and friends.

Born in Granville County, she was the daughter of the late Zachariah McGee and Zelma Tucker McGee. After receiving her nursing degree, she worked as the head operating room nurse and was very active in Rich Square United Methodist Church and continued to support them after moving to Fuquay. She was an avid Duke fan and was a very competitive bridge player.

A memorial service will be held 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at Bryan-Lee Funeral Chapel, Garner. Inurnment will follow at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Cedar Lawn Cemetery in Rich Square.

She is survived by many nieces, nephews and other family and friends, who will miss her greatly.

Mrs. Stephenson was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Dr. Bennett (Steve) E. Stephenson; and her daughter, Hazel Louise St. Pierre; as well as brothers and sisters, Effie Blalock, Hickman McGee, Leo McGee, Renet McGee, Odell Penny and Otha McGee.

The family wishes to thank Jean Mitchell for her dedicated and faithful service and for the Center Peace caregivers, especially, Beverly Brown, who loved Alma like a mother. The family would also like to thank Sylvia Bryant and Sue Brown for their continual friendship.
