Ruby Bernice Sessoms

DURHAM – Ruby Bernice Sessoms, 75, passed away Thursday, January 24, 2013 in Durham.

Ruby, better known as Bernice, was a long time resident of Hampton, VA until she moved to Durham to be closer to her daughter and grandchildren. She was a long time member of Macedonia Baptist Church in Newport News, VA and joined Cains Chapel Baptist Church in Hillsborough after relocating to Durham.

She was born in Cofield, NC to the late Blake and Hattie Shape. The youngest of five, her siblings proceed her in death.

She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Wayland L Sessoms; one daughter Stephanie Sessoms Riley; grandsons Justin and Evan Riley and son-in-law Calvin Riley. She also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews and many others who called her Ma Bea or Nana.

Services for Mrs. Sessoms will be held 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday January 29, 2013 at Macedonia Baptist Church, 5500 Marshall Ave. Newport News, VA. by the Rev. John Wilson. Interment will follow at Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, Suffolk, VA.

Mrs. Sessoms, will lie in state two hours prior to service at Macedonia Baptist Church.

Viewing for Mrs. Sessoms will be held on Monday, January 28, 2013 from 12 noon until 5:00 p.m. at C. C. Carter Funeral Home 3314 Roanoke Ave.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the National Kidney Foundation.
