AHOSKIE – Ahoskie Christian School jumped out to an early lead and never looked back here Friday night.
The Lady Warriors got 11 points from Brittany Evans and downed visiting Cornerstone Christian 37-20.
Evans started the game by scoring six unanswered points before Hali Perry chipped in a bucket. Heather Joyner and Perry scored back-to-back and the Warriors were up 14-0.
Elizabeth Evans stopped the run with a bucket for Cornerstone, but Brittany Evans scored again and Ahoskie led 16-2 after one quarter.
Sarah Lassiter added a pair of free throws for Ahoskie to start the second quarter, but Cornerstone scored the next four points on a bucket each by Jade Roberts and Nichole Walker as they closed the gap to 18-6.
Ashley Jilcott scored the next four points for the Warriors and gave her team a 22-6 advantage heading into the locker room at halftime.
Roberts started the third quarter with a hoop, but was answered by Brittany Evans. Walker then scored, but ACS’s Perry responded with a bucket.
ACS then got a bucket from Alyssa Clark, but Isabel Piscusa answered for Cornerstone, leaving the Warriors with the exact same 16-point edge after three quarters (28-12).
Jasmine Andrews started the final quarter with a hoop for Ahoskie, but Cornerstone then put together its best run of the night.
Walker hit 2-of-4 from the free throw line before Ivey Gilliam scored from the floor and Michele Titus added a shot from the charity stripe as the visiting squad closed within 30-17.
That was as close as the game would get, however.
Joyner and Gina Revelle hit successive buckets before Brittany Evans scored from the free throw line to push Ahoskie’s lead to 35-17.
From there, the teams managed five points in the closing minutes as Ahoskie went on to claim the easy victory.
The Lady Warriors will be back in action tonight (Tuesday) when they travel to Mt. Calvary for a 5 p.m. contest.
