Hey Hawks Fans!

Time is flying, and the sports teams at Chowan University are moving right along with it.

The Chowan University women’s basketball team took a loss to an undefeated Central State University.

Janelle Murphy put up 20 points herself in the 61-47 loss; while Kaela Nelson had a team high 11 rebounds.

Chowan fell to 0-2 on the season, but will return home on Tuesday, November 20 to host Central State. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. in the Helms Center.

The Chowan University Hawks men’s basketball team improved to 2-1 on the season after claiming a win from Catawba College, 74-66.

Kyree Bethel led the scoring for the hawks with 18 points in the win. Quinton McDuffie, Ashante Ross, and Greg Alston also scored double-digit points.

The Hawks will travel to Takoma, MD November 20, to take on Washington Adventist University. Game time is set for 7 p.m.

The Chowan University Volleyball team made it to the CIAA Championship for the fourth straight time this past Sunday. They breezed through pool play, winning nine straight sets on Friday to advance to the semi-finals on Saturday. They picked up wins over St. Augustine’s,ElizabethCityState, and Livingstone.

Next, the Hawks faced Winston Salem State where things became a little more competitive. Chowan edged away with the final set at 15-10 and match 3-2.

The championship came down to North Division champions, Chowan University and South Division champions, Fayetteville State University.

Unfortunately, the Lady Broncos of Fayetteville State came out on top.

Chowan University’s Karina Monroe collected 15 kills, and Callie Armistead tallied 51 assists in their last match for the Blue and White.

Monica Ruffin and Brianna Smith each grabbed 12 kills in the match, and CIAA Rookie of the Year Cindy Ehrich had 31 digs in the loss.
