AHOSKIE – Harold Paul McCoy, Sr., age 89, passed away at his residence on November 8, 2012.

Harold was born in Halifax County on October 8, 1923, a son of the late Frederick and Ida Sykes McCoy.  He attended Wake Forest University and Clemson University and worked for 40 years as the Vice President and General Manager of Charles H. Jenkins and Company, Inc.  He served as president of Ahoskie Projects, as the first chairman of the Hertford County Industrial Development Commission, and as a member of the Hertford County Board of Education.  He served his country in the U.S. Army for a period of 3 ½ years in the Pacific Theatre of World War II, achieving the rank of sergeant.  His hobbies included fishing, hunting for quail, golfing, gardening, woodworking and playing bridge.

Mr. McCoy is survived by his wife of 66 years, Anita Claire Morris McCoy; two children, H. Paul McCoy, Jr. and wife, Lynn B. McCoy, of Scotland Neck, and Suzanne McCoy Lee and husband, Joel Lee, of Raleigh; four grandchildren, Charles Michael McCoy and wife, Angie, of Greenville, Paul Carson McCoy and wife, Laura, of Raleigh, James Cameron Lee and Kathryn Grace Lee of Raleigh; and two great grandchildren, Charles Austin McCoy and Garrett Paul McCoy of Greenville.

Harold was a longtime, faithful member of First Baptist Church of Ahoskie where his memorial service was conducted on Saturday, November 10, 2012 with the Rev. Dr. Daniel Glaze officiating.  In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the First Baptist Church of Ahoskie, P.O. Box 649, Ahoskie, NC, 27910; or to Vidant Hospice of Ahoskie, P.O. Box 272, Ahoskie, NC, 27910.

The family will receive friends for visitation at the home at 107 Forest Drive in Ahoskie.
