Eagles beat Pasquotank

JACKSON – Northeast Academy scored a 7-2 win over Pasquotank County High School Wednesday.
The Lady Eagles won the tennis match by taking five singles matchups and two of the doubles events.
Northeast number three seed Mollie Cocke blanked Abigail Beasley of Pasquotank 8-0 for the biggest win of the day. Top-seed Ivey Little also scored a decisive win with an 8-1 victory over Kathleen Lowry.
Number two seed Caitlin Foster and number six seed Tracy Clark each claimed an 8-2 victory for the Eagles. Foster defeated Emma Finley while Clark topped Jordan Cannon.
Robyne Barnes won the battle of number four seeds when she defeated Hailey Pelton by a count of 8-3.
The only loss for the Eagles was at number five where Tasha Vaughan of Pasquotank claimed an 8-2 victory over Lauren Flythe.
In doubles action, Little and Foster claimed an 8-2 win at number one while Cocke and Barnes scored an 8-1 victory at number two. Pasquotank County won the number three seed doubles matchups.
That victory came just a week after the Lady Eagles defeated PCHS by a count of 8-1. In that matchup, Northeast won five singles matches and all three doubles competitions.
Northeast also suffered one setback in the last week, dropping a 6-3 decision to Northeastern High School. Cocke had the only singles win for the Eagles as she defeated Katelynn Simpson 8-2.
Cocke and Robyne Barnes combined to defeat Simpson and Renol Stevenson by a count of 8-5 at number two doubles and Flythe and Clark beat Anna Beth Robertson and Caroline Jennings 8-5 at number three doubles.
The Eagles will be back in action Tuesday when they host Ridgecroft School.
