John Evelyn Baugham, Sr.

BOYKINS, VA – John Evelyn Baugham, Sr., 83, died September 9, 2012 at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. He was born February 16, 1929 in Newsoms, VA to the late Jimmy and Annie Pulley Baugham and was predeceased by a sister, Barbara Nell B. Glover, and a nephew Calvin Bland Bryant, Jr.
He was a U.S. Army veteran and retired from Union Camp in 1991 after 33 years of service as a shipping clerk in roll finishing. He was an avid collector of antique farm equipment and old tractors, but his pride and joy was his 1951 Ford 8N Flat Head V8.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Gladys Parker Baugham; three sons, John E. “Lynn” Baugham, Jr. (Penny), Vernon W. Baugham (Linda) and Gary D. Baugham (Debbie); two daughters, Trudy B. Gunn (Ronnie Smith) and Carol B. Ferguson (L.T.); known affectionately as “Big Daddy” to his eight grandchildren, Celia G. Marston (Sean), Bryan Ferguson (Dana), Ricky Baugham (Luci), Stuart Ferguson, Heather F. Ashley (Matt), Jenny Baugham, Adam Baugham and Rachel Baugham; three great-grandchildren, Grayson Marston, Alexandra Marston and Cody Ferguson; a sister, Annie Baugham Bryant; a nephew, Jimmy F. Bryant; two nieces, Penny Glover-Clow and Robin Burton, and many special cousins.
A graveside service with military honors will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, September 13, 2012 in Beechwood Cemetery with the Rev. Kenneth Williams and Rev. Raymond Bunn officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Wright Funeral Home, Boykins Chapel, and suggests that, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Boykins Volunteer Fire and Rescue, Severn Volunteer Fire Department or the Conway-Severn Volunteer Rescue Squad.
The family wishes to express deep gratitude for the compassionate care provided by Dr. Michael Hooper and the ICU nurses at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, Joy, Sharon, Becky, Maggie, Brenda and Cheryl. A very special thanks to Amy, Hospital Chaplain, for her support to the family.
