Alvin Cleon “Shorty” Parker, Sr.

COMO – Alvin Cleon “Shorty” Parker, Sr., 73, passed away September 9, 2012.

He was born April 19, 1939 in Hertford County and retired from the Sheet Finishing Department from Union Camp Corporation after 38 years of service.

Alvin was a member and former deacon of Buckhorn Baptist Church and a member of the Woodmen of the World.  He was predeceased by his father, George Washington Parker.

Survivors include his mother, Martha Elizabeth Parker of Como; three daughters, Dottie P. Downs and husband, James, of Plymouth, Tracy L. Hobbs of Hickory, and Amy H. Neprudd and husband, Scott, of Holland, VA; four sons, Alvin C. Parker, Jr. and wife, Susie, and Lee E. Parker and wife, Mary Beth, all of Como, Joseph R. Parker and wife, Florence, of Maryland, and Justin D. Hobbs of Holland, VA; five sisters, Patricia Smith, Betty Jean Farmer, Mary Elizabeth Cuthbertson, Wanda Parker, and Georgia Harrell; 12 grandchildren and a special friend, Stancil Bryant and his wife, Sylvia.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 12, 2012 at Buckhorn Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Jay Brabban officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, VA on Tuesday, September 8, 2012 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and on Wednesday at Alvin’s home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Katie Parker Fund, Henry’s Heroes, or the Alzheimer’s Association.
