Rose Conwell Drake

COMO – Mrs. Rose Conwell Drake of Como, a native of Roanoke Rapids, passed away on August 31, 2012 at Vidant Healthcare Center in Greenville.
Her husband is James Drake, currently in Greenville; her children are Rose Drake Goforth of Greenville, Tim Drake of Conway, and Mrs. Sheree Drake Brubaker of Grimersland. She also enjoyed very much her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was an active member of Buckhorn Baptist Church in Como, teaching Sunday School and involved in many church activities until her health began to fail.
She was a full time homemaker, farmer’s wife, and mother, and then added a career outside the home. She worked 18 years with Chowan College, retired, and went on to enroll in Chowan and graduated with honors. She was selected and published in the Who’s Who in America Junior Colleges. She continued her education at East Carolina University, graduating with honors in English and Journalism. While at ECU, she was member and treasurer of Sigma Tau Delta, the English Honor Society.
Mrs. Drake taught briefly in Hertford County Schools and GED classes in Murfreesboro through Roanoke Chowan Community College. She was also a member of the UDC, United Daughters of the Confederacy, and was very interested in family history. Her passions and interests included family, photography, and Bible study. Mrs. Drake touched many lives and will be missed by her family, friends, and community.
A memorial service was held on Sunday, September 2, 2012 at Buckhorn Baptist Church, Hwy 258 N, Como, with fellowship afterward.
