Arline Davis Morris

EMPORIA, VA – Arline Davis Morris of Emporia, VA passed away on Saturday, August 18, 2012 at the age of 88.

She was the daughter of the late M.C. and Arlie Barnes Davis. A Conway, N.C. native, she was the valedictorian of the Conway High School class of 1941, where she was also captain of the girls’ basketball team.

An active member of Main Street Baptist Church, she served as Deaconess and Sunday School teacher.  She was also active in the WMU, George Braswell Circle and the Young at Heart.

A loving wife, mother and grandmother, she is survived by her husband of 67 years, Robert T. Morris; her children, Sharon M. White (Allen), Carol Jean Hostetter (Glenn), Robert T. Morris, Jr. (Lori), Richard Keith Morris (Vicki), Cindy M. Hodge (Jeff), Lori Ann Moore (Dean); grandchildren, Chris White, Emily Hostetter, Benjamin Hostetter, Kelsey M. Bowden (Randy), Meredith Morris, Brian Morris, Erika Morris, Tori Morris, Nolan Hodge, Hannah Hodge, Callie Hodge, Arlie Moore and Tyler Moore.  She is survived by a sister, Goldie Riddick Hines; nephew, William E. Davis, Jr.; nieces Mary R. Branch and Betty Jean Riddick.  She was preceded in death by her brother, William Elmo Davis, Sr.

A special thanks to her devoted care takers Daisy Gray, Lillian Miller, Mary Adams and Hattie Lee.  The family would also like to thank the staff at Emporia Manor Nursing Home.

A wonderful lady, our mother never met a stranger and devoted her entire life always doing for her family and others.  Her warm smile, generous heart and upbeat outlook on life touched so many, and she will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to know her.

A visitation was held at Echols Funeral Home Chapel in Emporia, VA on Monday, August 20, 2012.  A graveside service will be held Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Davis family cemetery, 1031 Lake Drive, Conway, North Carolina officiated by Dr. Ricky Hurst and Dr. Rand Forder.  Pallbearers will be Craig Branch, John Branch, Jeremy Branch, Ben Harris, Joe Menendez and Cary Mitchell.  Honorary pallbearers are Ted Blankenship, Ernest Bailey, Charles Brickell and Billy Gene Gregory.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Main Street Baptist Church or the Greensville Volunteer Rescue Squad.
