Changes at the top

JACKSON – Several public schools in Northampton County will see a change in their administrators.

According to a press release, the Northampton County Board of Education, at their July 16 meeting, approved the following administrative assignments:

Barbara Stephenson was named principal of Gaston Middle School. Stephenson was previously principal of Willis Hare Elementary in Pendleton.

Wanda Trevino, former administrator of the Northampton Alternative School, was named principal of Willis Hare Elementary.

Felisha Whitaker, former principal of Northampton County High School-West/STEM, was named principal of Conway Middle School.

Former Conway Middle Principal Barbara Drummond was named principal at the Northampton Alternative School.

Catina Jackson-Hoggard, former principal of Central Elementary School, was named District Literacy Coach. In the meantime, Lindell Parker has been named interim principal of Central Elementary until a permanent replacement is identified.

The press release states the following assistant principals were approved and designated for assignment:

Mark Barfield to Northampton County High School;

Mark Long to Northampton County High School;

Albert Bennett to Gaston Elementary School; and

Deborah Balmer-Drew to Willis Hare Elementary School.

“As we continue to make unprecedented progress in student achievement in our schools, I believe it is imperative that we continue to place caring, effective and quality educational leaders in our schools to partner with our teachers, staff, students, parents and communities to exact positive change and growth in our schools,” said Schools Superintendent Dr. Eric C. Bracy.

The changes became effective July 23.
