Hey Hawks Fans!

The days are vastly going by leaving you more and more excited for Chowan sports to start up!

Only 32 days left before Hawks Football kicks off!

There is something special about this year’s football season besides the feeling you receive when watching these athletes give it their all. This is the CIAA’s 100th year of football, which makes this years champion a historic champion.

CU’s Robert Holland could lead his teammates to an historic championship as the rising senior was named to the Pre-Season All-CIAA Team. During the 2011 season,Hollandled the Hawks to a 3-7 overall record, and 2-5 CIAA record.  Holland tallied 13 touchdowns for the blue and white, and will be counted on as a key returner this season.

A Chowan Alumnus, Nate McMillan, is in search for another gold medal since the 2008 Olympics at this year’s Olympics.

Nate is an assistant basketball coach under Mike Krzyzewski. McMillan attended Chowan from 1982-1984. In those years he was he first student-athlete to earn First Team All-American status for the institution upon his selection to the NJCAA All-American team in 1984.

Additionally, McMillan has been inducted to both the Hall of Fame at Chowan, and the National Junior College Men’s Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame. Other career highlights include: leading NCSU to a spot in the Elite Eight of the NCAA tourney during the 1985-86 season, first round draft pick in 1986 by the Seattle SuperSonics, and he coached the SuperSonics until 2005 until moving on to work with the Portland Trailblazer organization.

Do not forget about CU Fall Sports Community Night at 6 p.m. on August 16. This is an opportunity for you fans to enjoy free giveaways, free food and activities all while mingling with the student-athletes and coaches from the football, men’s and women’s soccer, volleyball, cross country and cheerleading teams.
