MURFREESBORO – An underage driver faces possible charges after allegedly wrecking a vehicle near here Monday morning.

The Murfreesboro Police Department received information concerning a vehicle that was off the highway and appeared to have been involved in an accident along Wises Store Road (SR 1300).

MPD officers searched the area for the driver and a short time later Murfreesboro Police Chief Darrell Rowe became aware that the person responsible for driving the vehicle was a 13-year-old male.

According to a report filed by North Carolina Highway Patrol Trooper J.K. Jones, a 2000 Honda passenger car was traveling north on Wises Store Road at approximately 11:20 a.m. when the driver lost control. The vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway and struck a tree.

The driver, whose name was not released due to the fact that he is a juvenile, was not injured. Apparently, he walked from the scene of the accident back to his grandmother’s residence and she summoned police.

The juvenile was the lone occupant of the vehicle, which was registered to Depree Peebles of Murfreesboro.

No charges were filed as of 4 p.m. Monday as Jones said he is continuing to investigate the accident.
