GATES — Margaret Cox Matthews, 91, of 1455 NC 37 North, Gates, died Friday, July 20, 2012 in her home.

Mrs. Matthews was born in Newport News, VA and was the daughter of the late Baxter C., Sr. and Bertie Foreman Cox.  A retired seamstress from London Town in Portsmouth, VA, she was a member of Westhaven Baptist Church in Portsmouth.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her son, Nelson Lee Butler; and three brothers, Foreman, B.C., Jr. and Harold “Bo” Cox.

Surviving are her husband of 42 years, Thomas B. Matthews; a daughter, Ann Ballard of Gates; a son, Terry Butler and wife, Teena, of Cleveland, TN; and six grandchildren, Corey Butler, Darrell Dunford, Christina Butler, Breahnna Butler, Chad Williamson and Brad Williamson.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday, July 25, at 11:00 a.m. in Olive Branch Cemetery, Portsmouth, by the Revs. Cody Brinkley and Billy Presley. Friends may join the family at the residence.

Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville, is assisting the family with arrangements.
