Rev. Oliver Winstead “Wint” Hale, Jr.

MURFREESBORO — Rev. Oliver Winstead “Wint” Hale, Jr. 69, of Franklin Drive, Murfreesboro, died Tuesday, July 10, 2012 at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.

He was born in Bertie County on October 1, 1942 to the late Frances Spivey and Oliver Winstead Hale, Sr.

Wint was a minister by profession and served many churches in eastern North Carolina.  He was a member of Mount Tabor Baptist Church in Murfreesboro and former member of Cashie Baptist Church where he was ordained in 1969.  He served Pineola, Ingold, Concord, Merry Hill, Lawrence, Bolivia, Fort Barnwell, Mount Tabor and Ebenezer as their pastor and Buckhorn, Bethel and Margarettsville as their interim pastor.  Wint was also a member of the Murfreesboro Vol. Fire Department as well as their Chaplin.  He was a member of the Woodmen of the World, the Lions Club and Habitat for Humanity.  He was a Chaplin for Vidant Roanoke-Chowan Hospital and the Ahoskie House as well as an avid hunter.

Funeral services will be held Saturday July 14, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Cashie Baptist Church in Windsor.  Burial will follow in Edgewood Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Spring Hale of the home; daughter, Helen Hale Lassiter of Windsor; sons, Otho William Hale of Pendleton and Joseph Allen Hale of Murfreesboro; sister, Len Hale Joyner of Rocky Mount; and five grandchildren.
