Felony charges filed

MURFREESBORO– A local woman stands charged with 75 felony counts of financial fraud following her arrest on Monday.

Hertford County Sheriff Juan Vaughan said that 46-year-old Shelia Credell Williams was arrested at her home onPinetops Road,Murfreesboro. She was charged with 15 felony counts each of forgery of an instrument, uttering a forged endorsement, exploit/disabled elder trust, identity theft and obtaining property by false pretense.

Williams was placed under a $112,000 secured bond and remains incarcerated in the Hertford County Jail after making her initial court appearance on Tuesday.

Vaughansaid his office received a complaint on May 16 regarding possible financial fraud. HCSO Investigator Dexter Hayes was assigned the case.

“There was an elderly individual residing with Ms. Williams,” saidVaughan. “As a result of Hayes’ investigation of the victim’s financial records, we were able to ascertain that Ms. Williams was apparently making withdrawals from the victim’s checking account without permission.”
