Wilson tops Ahoskie

AHOSKIE – Wilson Post 13 took a 10-4 win over Ahoskie American Legion Post 102 here Saturday in a senior game.

Wilson opened the scoring with three runs in the top of the first and added three more in the top of the third to take a 6-0 edge.

Ahoskie got on the board in the bottom of the fourth frame.

Marvin Harrell doubled to left and moved to third on a Daniel Merritt sacrifice fly. Harrell scored on a dropped third strike when the catcher threw to first to close the gap to 6-1.

Post 13 added another pair in the top of the fifth and upped its lead to 8-1.

Ahoskie responded in the bottom of the same inning.

Tyler Pryor doubled to center and moved to third on a Trey Lawrence groundout. He then scored on a Cecil Lowe RBI-single to center which closed the gap to 8-2.

Wilson scored their final two runs in the top of the sixth inning to make it 10-2.

Post 102 scored two more in the bottom of the sixth to establish their final total as well.

Merritt walked and went to third on a Clay Robbins single to right. Merritt scored on a wild pitch. After moving to second on a wild pitch, Robbins scored on a Pryor RBI-single to left to make it 10-4.

In the bottom of the seventh with one out, Will Glover walked and Tyler Burden was hit by a pitch. On a Harrell double to right-center field, Glover was thrown out at home. A fly out then ended the game.

Ahoskie used three pitchers including Timmy Whitlow, Adison Eure and Brandon Stifflemier.

Post 102 had seven hits led by Harrell and Pryor with two each.

Ahoskie is 6-14 overall after the loss and 5-6 in conference play. They will host Windsor Post 37 in a doubleheader at 5 p.m. Friday.
