John Wilson Overton

AHOSKIE – John Wilson Overton, age 88, passed away Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at Vidant Medical Center.  He was born in Hertford County on September 25, 1923 to the late Thad Overton and Sarah Brinkley Overton.

Mr. Overton proudly served his country during WWII as part of the 805th Military Police Company.  He worked at Eastern Office Equipment Company for many years as the printer and manager until he retired.  He was an active volunteer and Deacon at First Baptist Church of Ahoskie, and loved his work as a volunteer at Vidant Roanoke Chowan Hospital.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 65 years, Inez Dempsey Overton; daughters, Brenda Overton Languirand and husband, Mark, of Baton Rouge, LA, and Cindy Overton Jarman and husband, Daryle of Angier, NC; a son, Tony Overton and fiancé, Shari Gibson, of Ahoskie; grandchildren, Mark Languirand Jr. and wife, April, of Baton Rouge, LA, Michael Languirand and wife, Kerri, of Walker, LA, and Leslie Lambert and husband, Steven, of Angier, NC; and nine great-grandchildren. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, including special niece Debbie Magette.

A celebration of life memorial service will be held Friday, June 29 at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Ahoskie with the Rev. Daniel Glaze officiating.
