CONWAY – Randolph Edward Turner, 86, of Conway died Monday, June 18, 2012 at Halifax Regional Hospital in Roanoke Rapids.

He had been preceded in death by his daughter, Glenda Turner Bracy; parents, Roy and Cordell Turner; and sister, Lydia Turner Waters.

A native of Gates County, he lived most of his life in Conway and was a professional painter by trade. In earlier years he worked at the Newport News Shipyard and after retiring from painting worked with Odom Prison as a Tower Guard.

A member of Conway Baptist Church he is remembered best as a devoted husband of 65 years and a loving father who enjoyed trips to the mountains and, especially, to Myrtle Beach.

He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Ophelia Flythe Turner of their home; two grandchildren, Jeannie Jenkins of Henderson and James Jenkins of Durham; one sister, Imogene Turner of Swansboro, son-in-law, Harry Jenkins of Durham; and nephew, Mark Waters of Conway.

His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 21, 2012 at Bridgers Funeral Home, Inc. in Conway with the Rev. Nicky Martin and the Rev. Willie McLawhorn presiding. Burial will follow in the Town of Conway Cemetery.
