AHOSKIE – Rocky Mount Post 58 beat Ahoskie Post 102 by a final of 13-2 in a Senior American Legion game here Monday night.
Post 102 threatened in the bottom of the first, but couldn’t get a run across.
With two out, Daniel Meritt and Ryan Williams had back-to-back singles, but a fly out ended the threat.
Rocky Mount responded with a run in the top of the third and then pushed seven marks across in the top of the fifth as they took an 8-0 advantage.
Ahoskie got on the board in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Tyler Pryor singled to left before Brock Merritt singled on the infield. Both runners came home on a Marvin Harrell two-run double that closed the gap to 8-2.
Post 58, however, added a run in the sixth, two in the seventh and another pair in the eighth for the 13-2 win.
Ahoskie used four pitchers including Timmy Whitlow, who started and went four innings. Adison Eure, Will Glover and Williams also pitched.
Post 102 had seven hits with Mason Wright, Clay Robbins, Williams, Pryor, Harrell, Brock Merritt and Daniel Merritt each having a single hit.
“We are not hitting the ball,” Post 102 skipper David Ellis said. “When you score two runs it is tough to win.”
Ahoskie dropped to 1-8 overall and 1-2 in conference play.
They travel to Edenton tonight (Thursday) for a 7 p.m. game.
