James Lewis Wagoner, Sr.

KITTY HAWK – James Lewis Wagoner, Sr., 87, of Kitty Hawk died on Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at his residence.

Mr. Wagoner was born in Sparta, NC and was the son of the late Oscar and Nannie Gambill Wagoner.  He had a 39 year Law Enforcement career with the NC Highway Patrol, retiring in 1984 as an ALE District I Supervisor.  Mr. Wagoner also served his country in WWII as a pilot in the U.S. Air Force.

Mr. Wagoner is survived by his wife, Dorothy Hand Wagoner of the residence; a son, James L. Wagoner, Jr. and wife, Sarah Heath Wagoner of Kitty Hawk; a grandson, James Heath Wagoner of New York, NY; and two half-brothers, Charles Wagoner and Larry Wagoner, both of Staunton, VA.

A memorial service will be held at Gatesville Baptist Church on Saturday, June 16, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Gene Asbill officiating.  A graveside service in Sparta, NC will be scheduled in July.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
