CONWAY – Grover David Davis Jr., 81, of Conway peacefully left us on Saturday, May 26, 2012 at Rex Hospital in Raleigh with his wife, daughters and granddaughters by his bedside.

Born April 26, 1931 in Northampton County, he was the son of the late Grover D. and Mary Archer Davis.  He retired from Union Camp Corp. in 1996 working in the Franklin, VA and Seaboard plants for 40 years.  Grover was a lifelong member of Zion United Methodist Church near Conway and was a member of Pendleton Masonic Lodge No. 418 and a Sudan Shrine member in New Bern, NC.  He had been preceded in death by one brother, Waverly Davis; and two sisters, Maggie Lee Lassiter and Lynette Futrell.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Jean Burgess Davis; three daughters, Debbie Stephenson (Joel) of Weldon, Cindy Hodges (Jimmy) of Clayton, and Betsy Davis of Raleigh; four granddaughters, Lynn Barefoot of Four Oaks, Beth Pelter of Raleigh, and Lindsey Hamer and Leslie Hodges, both of Clayton; six great grandchildren, Ashlyn Marie Farish, Kamryn Renee Hamer, Ava Claire and Lily Kate Pelter, and Nicole Elizabeth and Jordan Waverly Barefoot; and one sister, Ellen Byrd of Conway.

The family will be receiving friends at Bridgers Funeral Home, Inc. in Conway on Tuesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and a funeral service for Mr. Davis will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 30, in Zion United Methodist Church, Zion Church Road, Conway, with the Rev. Suzanne Cobb presiding.  Burial with Masonic Rites will follow in the Town of Conway Cemetery.

The family would like to thank all of the staff in the ICU unit, 3rd and 4th floor of Rex Hospital in Raleigh for their loving care over the years.  We would also like to thank Dr. Joe Fleetwood, Jr., Dr. Daryl Emery, and Dr. Mark Englehardt for keeping Daddy with us for many years.
