Post 102 falls to Edenton

EDENTON – Edenton Post 40 topped Ahoskie American Legion Post 102 15-5 in a Senior League game here Wednesday night.

Post 40 opened the scoring with eight runs in the bottom of the first frame.

Ahoskie bounced back to plate one in the top of the second when Clay Robbins hit a solo homer to left to close the gap to 8-1.

Edenton, however, responded with a run in the bottom of the inning to move back ahead by eight runs.

Post 102 mounted a comeback in the top of the third inning.

Adison Eure singled to right and went to second on wild pitch. He moved to third on a Ryan Williams infield single. Robbins then walked to load the bases.

The first run of the inning scored when Billy Nixon drew a bases-loaded walk. Williams then scored on a Tyler Pryor infield single. Robbins scored on an error and Nixon scored on a wild pitch to close the gap to 9-5.

Post 40, however, slammed the door with four runs in the bottom of the third, pushing their lead to 13-5. They added two more in the bottom of the seventh and ended the game.

Eure, Pryor and Timmy Whitlow all saw time on the mound for Ahoskie. Scott Edge pitched three innings for Edenton.

Ahoskie had nine hits led by Williams and Daniel Merritt with two each.

Nathaniel Simpson of Gates County and Darren Armstrong of Lawrence Academy each had a hit for Post 40.

Ahoskie is now 0-4 and played Elizabeth City at home Friday in their home opener. Edenton will visit Tuesday at 7 p.m.
