Lloyd Edward “Bunny” Drake

JACKSON – Mr. Lloyd Edward “Bunny” Drake, age 75, died at the Life Care Hospital in Rocky Mount, NC on Friday, May 18, 2012.  He was a native and made his home Northampton County.

Mr. Drake gradated from Jackson High School and following graduation he joined the U.S. Coast Guard where he served his country for a term of four years.  He spent many weekends at the Tri-County Airport where he would enjoy flying.  He worked as a timber buyer with W.P. Morris Lumber Company in Jackson for fourteen years.  Mr. Drake joined the Merchant Marines where was chief engineer of a tug boat until he retired.

Following retirement he went back to work buying and selling timber. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing, feeding and watching the wildlife.  He loved and enjoyed spending time with his three grandchildren and grand dogs.  Mr. Drake never met a stranger, enjoyed talking on the phone and had many friends that will miss him dearly.

Preceding him death are his mother and father, Margaret Ophelia Lassiter Drake and Matt Thomas Drake; sisters, Mary Ella Deberry, Elizabeth Rogers, Dorothy Frost and Ruby Braswell; and brothers, Charlie Francis, John R., Lewis, Billy and Joe Drake.

Survivors include his wife, Annie Barnes Drake of Lasker; a daughter, Margaret “Meg” Drake Bridgers and her husband, Darren, of Lasker; two sons, Gary Edward Drake and his wife, Linda, of Lacrosse, VA and Lloyd Matt Drake and wife, Sue, of Merritt, NC; four sisters, Helen Barnes of Jackson, Ruth Barrett of Roanoke Rapids, Annie Warren of Norfolk, VA and Deanie Collier of Lasker; and a special friend, Linda Outlaw of Aulander.  Also surviving are three grandchildren, Meghan Dakota Drake Bridgers, Ashlynn Darren Bridgers and Greyson Burgess Bridgers.

Memorial services will be conducted on Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at 2:30 p.m. at the Rehoboth United Methodist Church in Jackson with the Rev. Daniel Earnhardt officiating. The family will receive friends following the memorial service at the church.
