Relay for Life: Northampton hosts inaugural event

JACKSON – No matter who you are or what your background is you have a reason to Relay.
This Friday and Saturday, Northampton County will host its first Relay for Life at the Northampton County Cultural and Wellness Center on Highway 305 North.
“(Cancer) touches every family in the area in some manner,” Dr. Pudden Gorlesky said. “We need to support research by raising money to help combat this disease.”
Gorlesky, who is involved with the Healthy Carolinians Team, said the first time event has a goal of $50,000. According to Relay for Life of Northampton County’s webpage, $43,563 of that goal has been raised so far. Twenty-three teams and 738 participants are involved in the event.

Friday, May 18:
6 p.m. Opening Ceremony-Survivors and Caregivers Lap
6:45 p.m. Team Lap
7 p.m. Entertainment (located at the stage area)
8 p.m. Basketball Tournament
9 p.m. Luminaria Ceremony
10 p.m. Sunglasses at Night
10:30 p.m. Glow in the Dark
11 p.m. Arm in Arm
11:30 p.m. Teens for a CURE
Saturday, May 19:
12 a.m. Singles Lap
1 a.m. Couples Lap
2 a.m. Diva Lap
3 a.m. Support Our Troops
4 a.m. Hat Lap
5 a.m. Patriotic Lap
6 a.m. Early Morning Stretch Lap
7 a.m. Pajama Lap
8 a.m. Morning Devotion/Meditation Lap
