Hey Hawks fans!

This year proved to be another solid year for CU athletics.

Last Friday the athletic department hosted our annual Girls and Women in Sports Day.  This was a great opportunity for the CU Women’s teams to work with young girls, interact with them, and encourage them to pursue athletics.  It was a fun day for everyone involved.

At the CIAA Tournament a few weeks ago, Chowan Baseball fell to Winston Salem State in the Championship Game.  The Baseball team had a successful season under first year Head Coach Taylor Furlough, and they certainly have a lot to look forward to for next year’s season.

The Softball team was eliminated by Winston Salem State after losing a 13-inning thriller.  There is a lot of young talent on this team, and I am really looking forward to seeing the team grow and develop over the coming years.

The Men’s Tennis team picked up a win over Lincoln University in the tournament before falling to Shaw University.  Then Women’s Tennis team was eliminated by Johnson C. Smith.  Both tennis teams also have a great deal of talent, and have shown great improvement over the past few seasons.

The CU Golf team finished up in 3rd place at the CIAA Tournament.  Cliff Forbes won the CIAA Championship Individual Title after shooting rounds of 72 and 68.  Congratulations Cliff!  Forbes will head to Hershey, Pennsylvania May 7-9 to participate in the NCAA Atlantic/East Region Tournament.  This marks the first time in the history of Chowan being a four year program that an individual member of the golf team has participated in an NCAA Regional Tournament.  We are proud of you Cliff!

Graduation is Saturday, May 5.  Congratulations to the class of 2012!

Personally, I feel so blessed to have had the opportunity to attend and play softball for Chowan.  I could not have asked for a better experience as a student-athlete, and I am so grateful to have had the chance to live the dream for four years.

I want to extend a sincere thank you to everyone in the athletic department, the faculty and staff on campus, and the community for all that you do to support the student-athletes at Chowan.

It really has been a great experience to play for Chowan for four years.

Go Hawks!
