Patricia (Pat) Sumner Mead

EUSTIS, Fla. – Patricia (Pat) Sumner Mead, age 55, of Eustis, Florida died Monday, April 30, 2012 at The Mayo Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida.
She was employed by the Lake County School System as a Dean of Students at Umatilla Middle School.
She is survived by her husband of 32 years, William “Bill” C. Mead of Eustis, Florida; her sons, Shawn Mead (Emily) of Huntsville, Alabama and Jordan Mead of Pensacola, Florida, her mother-in-law, Patty Mead of Leesburg, Florida; sister Anna Scott (Scottie) Swor (Larry) of Weirsdale, Florida; brother, Johnny Sumner of Como, North Carolina; sister, Joycylynn Patterson (Greg) of Raleigh, North Carolina; and sister-in-law, Cindy Hawkins (Fritz) of Delray Beach, Florida. Other survivors include a niece, Michelle Springstead (Mike) of Weirsdale, Florida, nephews, Dustin and Blake Sumner of Como, North Carolina; and great-nephews, Michael and Parker Springstead of Weirsdale, Florida.
Pat was born February 19, 1957 to Lokie and Riopell (Parker) Sumner of Como, North Carolina. She was a member of the Buckhorn Baptist Church throughout her youth where she first dedicated her life to loving and serving the Lord Jesus Christ.
She graduated in 1975 from Ridgecroft School in Hertford County, NC. After attending Peace College in Raleigh, Pat transferred and graduated from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. She later completed her Master’s Degree in Education Administration Leadership.
A joyous celebration of the life of Pat Mead will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 5, 2012 at Swor Cottage on the eastern shore of Lake Weir, 15050 SE 140th Av Rd, Weirsdale, Fla. Pastor Rick Patterson of Miami will officiate.

A private scattering of Pat’s ashes is planned for Fall 2012 near Blowing Rock, North Carolina.
