Viola DeBerry Martin

MILWAUKEE – Viola DeBerry Martin, 93, died April 24, 2012 at Rich Square Health Care Center in Rich Square.

She had been preceded in death by her husband, Bealie Jesse Martin, Jr. and parents, Charlie Wallace DeBerry and Mania Bridgers DeBerry; brothers, Marvin, Howard, C. W. and Willie Paul DeBerry; and sisters, Hollie Bridgers and Elsie Keeter.

A native of Northampton County, she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.  She worked with the Northampton County Board of Elections for over 50 years as Registrar of the Milwaukee precinct.  She was a loving homemaker and an active member of Bethany United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School for the youth and adult classes.  Also, she was a member of Eastern Star Chapter 13 in Pendleton, a member of Northampton County Home Demonstration Club, and an active member of the community.

Survivors include one daughter, Brenda Martin Daughtry and husband, James, of New Bern; one son, Wallace Martin and wife, Linda, of Collierville, TN; two granddaughters, Lisa Daughtry -Weiss and husband, Daniel, of Cheverly, MD and Brittany Martin of Flowood, MS; two great grandchildren, Matthew and Sophia Daughtry-Weiss of Cheverly, MD; one sister, Sarah Frances Savransky of Chesapeake, VA; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will be receiving friends at Bridgers Funeral Home, Inc. in Conway on Friday, April 27, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and her funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 28 in Bethany United Methodist Church in Milwaukee with Rev. Suzanne Cobb presiding.  Burial will follow in the Milwaukee Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to Bethany United Methodist Church, in care of Frances Britt, 4683 NC 35 Highway, Conway, NC  27820.
