JACKSON — Though the moratorium on Internet sweepstakes cafes has been lifted in Northampton County, officials are looking to regulate the businesses.

Last week a public hearing was set to take comments about amendments to Northampton County Zoning ordinance regarding Internet cafes. The hearing has been set for Monday, May 7 at 10:45 a.m.

Planning and Zoning Director William Flynn said the amendments would give the county guidance on how to permit and defining the electronic gaming establishments.

“We’ve already had them (the proposed amendments) go before the Planning Board, we just need a public hearing date so they can come before you (the commissioners),” he said.

In their last meeting the commissioners rescinded their decision from two years ago that placed a moratorium on Internet sweepstakes cafes while awaiting the General Assembly’s decision on the matter.

A recent court ruling decided a state law aimed at Internet cafes is unconstitutional.
