JACKSON — A request has come from the Northampton County Board of Education to rename Northampton County High School (NCHS) East Road.

On Monday, County Manager Wayne Jenkins presented the Northampton County Board of Commissioners with the request. A public hearing on the road’s name change will take place on May 7 at 10:30 a.m.

“The request has come through the Northampton County Board of Education since the merger of the two high schools in to one Northampton County High School,” he said.

Jenkins said the school board is requesting the name be changed to Northampton County High School Road and added he was asking for authorization to set a public hearing on the matter.

Commission Vice Chair Virginia Spruill moved to approve the public hearing date and time. Commissioner Robert Carter offered a second and the motion carried without objection.
