JACKSON — Northampton County’s moratorium on Internet Sweepstakes Cafes is no more.

Last week the Northampton County Board of Commissioners voted to rescind their previous decision to place a moratorium on electronic gaming establishments in the county.

The board adopted the ordinance providing for a moratorium on Internet cafes in 2010.

A statewide ban on Internet cafes was placed in effect the same year, but a recent decision labeled the law unconstitutional. Additionally, a decision earlier this month by the North Carolina Court of Appeals agreed with the previous decision.

Commissioner Chester Deloatch moved to rescind the moratorium. Commissioner Robert Carter offered a second and the motion passed without objection.
