EURE – A Gates County woman lost her life in a two-vehicle accident near here Wednesday night.

Angelique Horne, 27, of Hobbsville was killed after the vehicle she was operating reportedly pulled into the path of another car at the intersection of US 13 and Barfield Road (RP 1128) near Dave’s Place.

According to a report filed by North Carolina Highway Patrol Trooper K.R. Velazquez-Genao, Horne allegedly failed to stop her vehicle at the stop sign on Barfield Road and was broadsided in the driver’s side door by a passenger car operated by Ruyan Clark, 33, of Suffolk, VA. Clark’s vehicle was traveling north on US 13 at the time of the 9 p.m. accident.

Clark was injured and was transported to Vidant Roanoke-Chowan Hospital in Ahoskie for treatment.

Timothy Harrell, 27, of Eure, a passenger in Horne’s vehicle, was also injured. He was taken to Vidant Roanoke-Chowan Hospital and later transported to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville. Velazquez-Genao said Harrell suffered internal injuries.

Horne was airlifted to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital where she died late Thursday morning.

The accident resulted in the closure of US 13 for approximately 90 minutes.

“The Eure Volunteer Fire Department, Gates County EMS and Gates County Emergency Management Director Billy Winn were on the scene very quickly after the accident occurred,” Velazquez-Genao said.

The fatality was the third of 2012 in the Highway Patrol’s Troop A/District II area (Bertie, Gates and Hertford counties). Two of those fatalities have occurred in Gates County.
