MURFREESBORO – Nancy Saunders Alston Hazelton of Murfreesboro died unexpectedly on March 20, 2012. Nancy was born in Littleton, NC on November 17, 1941 to William Kitchin Alston and Helen Babcock Alston.

Nancy graduated from Littleton High School and attended Peace College and East Carolina University.  She was multi-talented and known for her sewing, crafts, gardening, and love of children.  For thirty-five years she touched the lives of many children that attended her home day care.

As the wife of recently deceased George Hazelton, she is survived by her children, Susan Hazelton Price and husband, Robert, of Wilmington, Laura Hazelton Rodgers of Richlands, John Hazelton and wife, Maria McIntyre, of Wilmington, and Leigh Hazelton Sumner and husband, Jesse, of Murfreesboro; and grandchildren, Savannah Elizabeth Price, Caroline Leigh Price, Robert Spencer Price, Richard “Tripp” Rodgers, III, Katelyn Grace Sumner, Bailey Kaitlynn Sumner, and Brett Kaleb Sumner.  Among the many who share the grief over her passing are her sister, Jean Mitchum and her husband, Kenneth, and their children, Marc, Paul, and Joe.  In addition, she leaves behind her dear sweet pups, Katie and Roxanne.

Faith was an essential part of her life, and she was an active member of Stanley White Presbyterian Church.  Nancy was blessed with many friends and fellow church members.  She never missed the chance to chat with friends about children, grandkids, and local events.  Nancy will be most remembered for the unconditional love of her children and grandchildren as she always put them first and provided them with the love, encouragement, and support that they needed to achieve their best in life.  Her family wishes to especially thank Mrs. Judy Clark for her friendship and support during this difficult time.

A memorial service for both Nancy and her husband George will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 24, 2012 at Garrett-Jones Funeral Home in Ahoskie, NC.  Graveside services will be held for Nancy at 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 25, 2012 at Sunset Hill Cemetery in Littleton with the Rev.
