MURFREESBORO – George Livingston Hazelton of Murfreesboro died on March 13, 2012.  George was born in Pollocksville, NC on December 22, 1940 to Howard Hazelton and Zena Mae Gibson Hazelton.

George received a bachelor of science in physics from East Carolina University and a master’s degree from Wake Forest University.  He spent nearly 44 years as a professor of physics at Chowan College, now Chowan University, and earned post-graduate certificates from universities throughout the country.  George enjoyed many years in Murfreesboro raising a family and attending Murfreesboro Baptist Church.

George is survived by his wife, Nancy Alston Hazelton; children, Susan Hazelton Price and husband, Robert Price; Laura Hazelton Rodgers; John Hazelton and wife, Maria McIntyre; Leigh Hazelton Sumner and husband, Jesse Sumner and grandchildren, Savannah Price, Caroline Price, Robert Spencer Price, Bailey Sumner, Brett Sumner, Katelyn Sumner, and Richard “Tripp” Rodgers, III.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 24, 2012 at Garrett-Jones Funeral Home in Ahoskie.

Donations may be made in George’s memory to Vidant Medical Center Foundation, Inc., P.O. Box 8489, Greenville, North Carolina 27835 for the expansion of Vidant Children’s Hospital.  The family extends special thanks to Kindred Transitional Care and Rehabilitation for the wonderful care and support.
