Waverly Lee Hollowell

HOBBSVILLE – Waverly Lee Hollowell, 83, of 1348 NC 32 South, Hobbsville, died Saturday, March 10, 2012 in his home.

Mr. Hollowell was born in Gates County and was the son of the late Spurgeon Lee and Pauline Blanchard Hollowell.  A retired teacher, he taught carpentry and masonry at Gates County High School for 23 years, and prior to that worked with his father in the home construction business.  A member of Hobbsville Baptist Church and its Adult Choir, he served as a Deacon, was chairman of the Cemetery Committee, and also enjoyed membership in the Gates County Lions Club and the Hobbsville Volunteer Fire Dept.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 57 years, Frances Byrum Hollowell.

Surviving are his daughter, Joy H. Jackson and husband, Johnny, of Cary; his son, Dennis R. Hollowell and wife, Patricia, of Erwin; his brother, Thomas Van Hollowell of Aiken, SC; five grandchildren, Shelley (Matt), Shannon (Mark), Colby (Amy), Kelly (Jason), and Adrienne; and five great-grandchildren, Tyler, Briceson, Reese, Avery, and Jackson.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 13, 2012 in Hobbsville Baptist Church by the Rev. Tim Dannelly.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Friends may join the family on Monday, March 12 from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville, and other times at the residence.
