Paul Alton Holloman

AHOSKIE – Paul Alton Holloman, age 86, of Talmadge Avenue, Ahoskie, died Tuesday, February 28, 2012, at Vidant Roanoke Chowan Hospital.

Mr. Holloman was born October 18, 1925, in Hertford County, the only child of Andrew and Cora Holloman.  He was an active member of Ahoskie Free Will Baptist Church where he served as song leader for over 45 years, as well as serving on other various boards and committees throughout the years.  Alton was also a member of the American Legion Post 102 and was a member of the Ahoskie Woodmen of the World Lodge #328 since 1942, having serving in various positions over the years including serving as the National Representative from 1997 until 2001.  He enjoyed attending WOW camps and bingo night.  He also enjoyed traveling with his late wife, Murrell Turner Holloman, especially going to Lake Okeechobee, staying for months, and fishing, which they did year after year.  He was the owner and operator of the Tastee Freeze in Ahoskie and was a Navy veteran, serving during WWII.

Left to cherish his memory is his daughter, Debra Elizabeth Holloman of Ahoskie; a son, Paul Davy Holloman of Colerain; and a grandson, Bruce Eric Holloman of Charlotte.

The family will receive friends at Garrett-Jones Funeral Home on Friday, March 2, from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. and other times at the home.  A celebration of life service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 3, 2012 at Ahoskie Free Will Baptist church, with the Rev. Jeffrey Cockrell and the Rev. Robert May officiating.  Burial will follow in Ahoskie Cemetery, with military honors.  Flowers are welcome or memorial donations may be made to Ahoskie Free Will Baptist Church, 500 Kiwanis St., Ahoskie, NC, 27910.
