Vernon Coolidge Lewter

Vernon Coolidge Lewter, 80, died peacefully Thursday, February 23, 2012 at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville  surrounded by family and friends.

He was born January 27, 1932 in Hertford County, the son on the late Harriet Lewter.  He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Audrey Lassiter Lewter.

He was a very active member of Second Baptist Union Church, serving as Deacon,  Trustee and former Superintendent of the Sunday School.  He was also a member of Jerusalem Masonic Lodge #96.

Vernon is survived by four sons, Curtis M. Lewter of Jamaica, NY, Kenneth M. Lewter of Webster, NY, F. Garry Lewter and wife, Margaret, of Ahoskie, and Arnold J. Lewter of Louisburg; two granddaughters, H. Paige Lewter of Lexington Park, MD and Michele Dee Lewter of Greensboro; two grandsons, Jonathan Lewter of Rochester, NY and Jordan Lewter of Webster, NY;  sisters-in-law; brothers-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, February 27, 2012 at Second Baptist Union Church in Ahoskie with the Rev. M. Bryan Pierce officiating.  The interment will follow at the Lewter Family Cemetery.

Viewing will be held on Sunday, February 26 at Hunter’s Funeral Home, Ahoskie, who is handling the arrangements.
