Maggie Lee Eure Tinkham

EURE – Maggie Lee Eure Tinkham, 88, of 57 Corner High Road, Eure, died Wednesday, February 22, 2012 in Vidant Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.

Mrs. Tinkham was born in Gates County and was a daughter of the late Quinton Robert, Jr. and Sallie Mae Early Eure.  A graduate of Chowan College, she worked in Raleigh with the State Parole Office during the war years, later as a teacher’s assistant at Buckland Elementary School, and retired as a postal clerk with the Eure Post Office.

A faithful member of Cool Spring Baptist Church and its W.M.U., she had served her church in many capacities and also enjoyed membership in The Order of the Eastern Star and the Gates County Senior Citizens.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, A. Randolph Tinkham.

Surviving are two daughters, Jane Webb and husband, Lloyd, of Suffolk, VA and Cathy Cutchins and husband, Ben, of Newsoms, VA; two sons, Randy Tinkham and wife, Mary Louise, of Chesapeake, VA and Steve Tinkham and wife, Sheila, of Eure; three sisters, Garnett E. Hudgins and Omah E. Harrell, both of Eure, and Bobbie E. Cowan and husband, Ray, of Suffolk, VA; a brother, Andrew Q. Eure and wife, Jeannette, of Williamston; 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, February 25, 2012 in Cool Spring Baptist Church by the Revs. Roger Kiker and Tommy Hayes.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Friends may join the family Friday from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville, and other times at the residence.

Memorial contributions may be made to Cool Spring Baptist Church, in care of Merwin Bauerle, 460 US Hwy 13 South, or to the Eure Volunteer Fire Dept., in care of T.C. Vaughan, P.O. Box 50, both in Eure, NC  27935.

The family wishes to express their deep appreciation to Dr. Charles Sawyer and staff and to the home caregivers for the loving care and comfort they gave Mrs. Tinkham.
