Another new race developed during filing last week.

There will now be a contested race to fill a seat that has been held by retiring Chief District Court Judge Thomas R.J. Newbern for the past 20 years.

Woodland attorney Luther Culpepper has filed to seek the position being vacated by Newbern. He joins Halifax County Assistant District Attorney Vershenia Ballance Moody in seeking the office.

That race for District Court Judge is one of just two that has continued to develop due to recent filing.

The other is the Northampton County Board of Education where another newcomer has put his name forth to seek a seat on the board. Terrence L. Boone of Garysburg registered for office Monday.

Boone joins current board member Marjorie Edwards, retiring assistant superintendent of schools and current Conway Town Commissioner Phil A. Matthews and Clinton McCray Williams in running for the four vacant seats on the board.

Incumbents Bill Little, Lott Majette and Erica Smith-Ingram have not filed as of Monday.
