Janie Martin Outland

CONWAY – Mrs. Janie Martin Outland, age 97, died at the Halifax Regional Medical Center in Roanoke Rapids on Wednesday, February 15, 2012.

She was a native of Northampton County and a member of the Conway United Methodist Church in Conway. She was married to the late Wingate T. Martin and to this marriage was born three daughters.  Some years following the death of Mr. Martin she was married to the late W.S. “Red” Outland.  Mrs. Outland has a great love of her family and church.  She enjoyed cooking and sharing her dishes with others in the community.

Also preceding her in death are her mother and father, Essie Mae Britt Martin and Grover C. Martin; three sisters, Ella Mae Watson, Mildred Martin and infant Winnie Gray Martin; and four brothers, Clarence Charlie, Sidney and infant Leo Martin.

Survivors include three daughters, Peggy M. Cline and her husband, William, of Charleston, SC, Josephine M. Ricks and her husband, Norman, of Conway and Vivian M. Perkins and her husband, Wayne, of Richmond, VA; five sisters, Mary Cahoon of Chesapeake, VA, Doris Vinson of Murfreesboro, Myrtle Revelle of Goldsboro, Lillian Howerton and her husband, Bruce, of Rich Square and Gladys Wheeler and her husband, Grady, of Goldsboro; and two brothers, Kelly Martin and his wife, Mille, and Dennis Martin, all of Conway, NC.  Surviving are grandchildren, June Tuten, Jeffery Cline, Joyce Hansen, Mark Ricks, Anthony Ricks, Norma Jo Drewette, Chris Perkins and Michelle Lifsey; and great grandchildren, Jason Ricks, Jamie Taylor, Mindy Drewette, Brittany and Courtney Tuten, Emory Cline, Caroline and Alexandra Hanson, Grayson, Eathon, Wyatt and Carter Perkins, Campbell and Judson Lifsey.  Also surviving are great great grandchildren, Sarah Kate and Karson Ricks and Brallen Woods.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 18, 2012 at Conway United Methodist Church in Conway with the Rev. Robert Hill officiating.  The interment will follow at the Conway Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Sykes Funeral Service in Rich Square on Friday evening from 7:00-8:30 p.m.
