Thadys Garris Simmons

CONWAY – Thadys Garris Simmons, 72, of Conway died peacefully Saturday, February 11, 2012 after a lengthy illness.

Fondly called “Nannie” by many who loved her, she had been preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, David Clyde Simmons; parents, John Mack and Goldie Nicholson Garris; and brother, Quinton Garris.

She was a very active member of Conway Baptist Church, serving as Sunday School Teacher, Choir Member, Vacation Bible School Director, Meals -On-Wheels Volunteer and in various other church related activities. Along with her dedicated husband, she volunteered at Willis Hare Elementary School reading to the children and helping where she could.

Survivors include two children, Mona Simmons Taylor and husband, Floyd, of Galatia and David Brian Simmons and wife, Lou Ann, of Roanoke Rapids; grandchildren, Kameron T. Labate and husband, Michael, Kristin T. Herrold and husband, Gabriel, Austin Simmons, Ronnie Taylor, Kelli Simmons, and Kevin Taylor; three great grandchildren, Matthew and Jessica Herrold and Conner Labate;  two brothers, William Garris and wife, Mary Lewter, of Conway and Marvin Garris and wife, Dale, of Murfreesboro; and a dear cousin, Shirley Seamster and husband, Jesse, of Virginia.

The family received friends at the Conway Baptist Church Social Hall on Monday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and her funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, February 14, 2012 in Conway Baptist Church with the Rev. Willie McLawhorn and the Rev. Michael Labate presiding. Burial followed in the Town of Conway Cemetery.
