CREEKSVILLE – The first place Lady Trojans of Southeast Halifax came into town Friday night and spoiled senior night for the Northampton County High School-East Lady Rams’ Jomecka Deloatch, Alexus Shoulders and Dajenique Daye by claiming a 60-45 victory in a Tar-Roanoke Conference girl’s basketball game.

The Lady Trojans jumped out to a quick lead as Takweyla Battle opened the scoring with a basket at the 6:41 mark of the first quarter. She quickly followed with a three-point bucket and that was followed by baskets by Courtney Jones and A. B. Harrison and the Lady Trojans were out to a 9-0 lead midway through the period.

Daye stopped the run for the Lady Rams with a basket at the 2:47 mark.

Alternating baskets then ensued as Battle, Bria Richardson, and a three by Sekethia Williams were scored for the Lady Trojans and Shoulders and Deloatch hit for the Lady Rams giving the Lady Trojans a 16-6 lead after the first quarter.

The second quarter saw the Lady Trojans extend their lead in spite of the eight-point effort of Deloatch. The teams swapped baskets for the first half of the quarter.  But the Lady Trojans put together an 8-2 spurt to close out the half with a 34-16 lead.

The third quarter began with two quick baskets by Battle giving the Lady Trojans a 38-16 lead.

Daye then hit a three and a quick steal and layup by the Lady Ram cut the lead to 38-21.   The remainder of the quarter saw the teams continue to swap baskets as the quarter ended with the Lady Trojans up by a 47-29 margin.

Senior Daye started the fourth quarter with a three pointer and closed out the scoring with two baskets to score seven of her team’s 16 fourth quarter points.  But it was not enough as the taller and quicker Lady Trojans pulled out the victory.

Seniors Daye and Deloatch led the Lady Rams with 16 points each.  Leading the Lady Trojans were Williams with 17 and Battle with 11 points.

The Lady Trojans close out conference play hosting KIPP Pride on Tuesday night.  The Lady Rams of Northampton County High School-East will next play at Rocky Mount Prep next Friday in a non-conference match-up.
