Lady Vikings stop Northeast

LASKER – Halifax Academy cruised to a non-league win over the Lady Eagles of Northeast Academy here Wednesday.

Halifax jumped out to an early lead and went on to the 51-28 win over Northeast.

The Lady Vikings scored the first six points of the contest thanks to three straight hoops by Hayley Wood, but Ashton Liverman stopped the spurt with a hoop at the 4:05 mark of the quarter.

Hannah Roye then added a pair of free throws to close the gap to 6-4.

Halifax, however, got a three-pointer from Wood and added a bucket by Anna Glover as they surged to an 11-4 advantage. They led 12-5 after one quarter.

Roye started the second quarter with a hoop and helped get the Eagles within five, but they would get no closer as Halifax went on a 6-0 spurt moments later thanks to hoops from Glover, Jessie Jones and Caroline Morris. The result was a 20-9 lead for Halifax. The Vikings led 22-10 at the intermission.

The Vikes got 1-of-2 from the line from Jones to start the third quarter and Liverman scored for the Eagles to close the gap to 23-12.

Halifax, however, scored the next seven straight and took a commanding 30-12 lead.

The Lady Eagles didn’t quit, however, as Kaylen Rose hit consecutive shots to close the gap to 30-16.

Halifax, however got a pair of three-pointers from Wood over the closing minutes of the quarter and led 36-18 after three quarters.

The Vikings continued to pull away in the fourth quarter and were able to come away with the non-conference victory.
