Janie Ann Privott Williams

COFIELD – Janie Ann Privott Williams, age 67, died Monday, January 23, 2012, at Vidant (Pitt) Memorial Hospital in Greenville, NC.

The daughter of the late William Henry and Annie Laurie Privott, Mrs. Williams was reared in Cofield, NC, and graduated from C. S. Brown High School in Winton, NC in 1963. A graduate of Maco Beauty College in Greensboro, NC, Mrs. Williams also received her B.S. degree in education from Elizabeth City State University.

Janie’s professional career was as an educator in Bertie, Hertford, and Halifax counties. Her love for teaching continued even after her retirement from Halifax Public Schools when she worked as a mathematics tutor at Ahoskie Elementary School until her death.

Janie was a member of the New Ahoskie Missionary Baptist Church where she sang in the Senior Choir and she tutored in the church’s afterschool program.

She was a member of the Hertford County Retired School Personnel, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., member of Tri-County Council, where she served as Vice Daughter Ruler before being elected as Daughter Ruler of the Evelyn C. Reynolds Temple #1303. Janie also served as the youth advisor of the Kevin E. Williams Youth Council #291.

She is survived by two daughters, Rhonda L. Taylor of the home and Fern L. Freeman from Leland, MS; one granddaughter, Wynter L. Taylor of the home; two sisters, Frances P. Robinson of Maryland and Willie P. Williams of Cofield; one niece, Laurie Robinson of New York; and two nephews, Russell (Josephine) Robinson of Washington, DC and Dell A. Williams of New Jersey. She is also survived by great nieces and nephews, numerous cousins, other relatives and friends.

A wake will be held on Friday evening, January 27 at Hunter’s Funeral Home, Ahoskie, from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 28 at New Ahoskie Missionary Baptist Church, Ahoskie, at 11:00 a.m.
