LASKER – Northeast Academy rolled to a Tarheel Independent Conference win here Friday.
The Eagles used a full-court press on defense to down visiting Albemarle School 75-25.
Northeast opened the game on an 18-point run thanks to early hoops by Logan Simonowich and Brad Johnson.
Ryan Williams also got into the scoring with a three-pointer while Avery Hargrave hit a bucket as well.
After a free throw by the Colts, Christian Fleetwood scored at the 3:34 mark of the first quarter to give Northeast a 20-1 edge.
The Eagles eventually claimed a 26-4 lead after one period of play.
The second quarter started much the same as the first with defensive pressure by Northeast, but Albemarle was able to knock down a pair of three-pointers answered only by a Zach Byers field goal to make it 28-10 at the 5:31 mark of the second quarter.
Northeast continued to pull away thanks to hoops from Johnson, Williams and Cody Hurdle as they secured a 42-14 lead at halftime.
The home team continued to pull away in the third quarter when the Eagles used a full-court press to score the first seven points of the period. They allowed just one basket in the quarter while rolling off 24 points of their own to grab a 66-16 lead.
Albemarle scored the first hoop of the fourth quarter and added a free throw to get within 66-19.
The Eagles began substituting shortly after and the second unit played the bulk of the final eight minutes with Wrenn Woodard, Hurdle and Fleetwood leading the way.
