Roye paces Lady Eagles

LASKER – The Eastern North Carolina School for the Death traveled here on Thursday to take on the Lady Eagles of Northeast Academy.
The Lady Eagles took a 69-46 victory lead by the 22-point scoring effort of Hannah Roye.
The Lady Eagles jumped out to a 9-2 lead on baskets by Kaylen Rose, Ashton Liverman and Roye. The teams then swapped baskets the remainder of the first quarter as Northeast held a 17-12 lead as the quarter ended.
Robyne Barnes got the Lady Eagles started in the second quarter with a pair of free throws followed by a Liverman basket giving Northeast a 21-12 lead.
The Golden Hornet closed to 21-17 on a free throw and basket by S. Green and a basket by D. Snead.
Following an exchange of baskets by Roye and Snead, Northeast ran off 11straight points on the strength of three hoops and a free throw by Roye giving the Lady Eagles a 34-19 advantage.
Following a basket by T. Blant and two free throws by Green, the lead was cut to 34-23.
A pair of free throws by Liverman was followed by a three-pointer from Green at the buzzer and Northeast took a 36-26 lead into halftime.
The Lady Eagles put the game away as they started the second half with a 12-1 run sparked by seven points from Ivey Little giving the Northeast squad a 48-27 lead at the mid-point of the third quarter.
The teams then exchanged baskets and free throws as the quarter ended with the Lady Eagles comfortably sitting on a 59-37 lead.
The fourth quarter saw the Lady Eagles outscore the Golden Hornet 10-9 as the final buzzer sounded with Northeast claiming the victory.
Following Roye’s 22 points were Little with 18, Liverman with 16, Rose with eight and Barnes with five.
Leading the Golden Hornet was S. Green with a game high 32 points.
