Marjorie Braswell Ricks

CONWAY – Marjorie Braswell Ricks, 83, died Monday, January 9, 2012 at Northampton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Jackson.

She had been preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Braxton Craig Ricks; parents, Gurney and Hattie Mae Duke Braswell; two brothers, Abner Braswell and James Braswell; and one sister, Louise Braswell Slade.

A native of Northampton County, she was a loving farmers’ wife, and a mother and grandmother who always had a little party for the grandchildren when they came to visit.  Originally a member of Rehobeth United Methodist   Church, she became a member of Galatia Baptist Church when she married and taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School there.

Survivors include three children, Diane Ricks Hasty and husband, David, of Conway, Lemuel C. Ricks and wife, Shelby, of Conway, and Sherry Ricks Hilliard and husband, Don, of Seaboard; five grandchildren, David C. Hasty, Jr. of Seaboard, Richard Hasty of Connecticut, Marlo Ricks of Rocky Mount, Lacey Hilliard and Carson Hilliard of Seaboard;  three great grandchildren, Jenna, Alex, and Hannah Hasty of Milwaukee;  three sisters, Mertis Edwards of Jackson, Essie Mae Woodard and husband, Shirley, of Conway and Jean Edwards of Roanoke Rapids; one brother, Gurney Braswell and wife, Becky, of Rich Square; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family received friends at Bridgers Funeral Home, Inc. in Conway on Tuesday, January 10 and a Memorial Service for Mrs. Ricks was held in Galatia Baptist Church on Wednesday, January 11 with the Rev. David Foster presiding.
